The Play’s the Thing – Episode 64

The Play’s the Thing was the eleventh episode of Quantum Leap’s fourth season to air, with Sam trying to keep his elderly lover away from her caring family and a wealthy suitor. In this episode Gerry and Iain discuss high stakes and consequences.

Sam leaps into Joe Thurlow, an aspiring young actor who is living in New York with his partner, Jane Lindhurst (Penny Fuller). Although Jane has told Joe she is turning forty and has a nineteen year old son, Sam is surprised when it turns out both those numbers are light by about a decade.

Jane’s son Neil (Daniel Roebuck) shows up in town with his pregnant wife Liz (Anna Gunn) and Ted (Robert Pine), a wealthy Ohio businessman with a flame for Jane. Sam tries to persaude the entourage not to whisk Jane back to Cleveland before she’s had a chance to see whether she can make it as a singer.

The Play’s the Thing was directed by Eric Laneuville, his only Quantum Leap. The writer was Beverly Bridges, the last of her five scripts for the show.

In this episode Gerry and Iain considered nepo babies.
