Episode 59

Episode 59 was the sixth episode of Quantum Leap’s fourth season to air, with Sam trying to bring a popular young man to trial after leaping into the victim of a serious assault. In this episode Gerry and Iain discuss the power of reputation.

Sam leaps into Katie (Cheryl Pollak), a young woman receiving hospital treatment after suffering a serious sexual assault. Accompanied by her sister Libby (Amy Ryan), she is determined to bring charges against popular local jock Kevin Wentworth (Matthew Sheehan).

When her father, Jim (Arthur Rosenberg), and mother, Colleen (Nancy Lenehan), are less than fully supportive of Katie’s efforts to ensure Kevin is prosecuted, local cop Shumway (Eugene Lee) brings her to DA Nancy Hudson (Penny Peyser) who agrees to take the case before Judge Bowers (Aaron Lustig).

Episode 59 was directed by Michael Zinberg, the eighth of his nine episodes at the helm, and written by Beverly Bridges, the fourth of her five scripts for the show.

In this episode Gerry and Iain considered gravitas and the consequences of its absence.
