After a lightning strike as Sam leapt out of the asylum at the end of season 3, he and Al find they have switched places, with Sam now home in the future and Al trapped in the 40s where he finds a familiar scenario, having leaped into a man whose betrothed, Suzanne (Amanda Wyss), has taken a new partner, Clifford (Robert Prescott), in his absence.
While Sam consults with his wife Donna (Mimi Kuzyk) and Gooshie (Dennis Wolfberg) in the present, Al gets advice from Kelly (Jeanine Jackson) and Mike (Douglas Roberts) in the forties as he figures out whether to fight fo Suzanne and what that might mean.
The Leap Back was directed by Michael Zinberg, the seventh of his nine episodes. The story was by Donald P. Bellisario.
In this episode Gerry and Iain considered the collateral damage caused by unilateral sacrifice.
