Future Boy – Episode 44

Future Boy - The Leap Home - Episode 44

Future Boy was the thirteenth episode of Quantum Leap’s third season to air, with Sam trying to save a would-be time traveller from being institutionalised. In this episode Gerry and Iain discuss the difference between science and psychosis.

Sam leaps into Future Boy, sidekick to Captain Galaxy, also known as young actor Kenny Sharp. Informed that his co-star Moe Stein (Richard Herd), the aforementioned galactic captain, is days away from an untimely demise, Sam must intervene to save the old man’s life.

Al is convinced that having Stein institutionalised, as his daughter Irene (Debra Stricklin) feels is necessary, would be a sensible choice, however Sam does not feel that would be a fair end for a man walking the fine line between genius and madness. It may be left to a judge (David Sage) to decide Stein’s fate.

Future Boy was directed by Michael Switzer, his only episode of the series. The writer was Tommy Thompson, the fourth of his 13 scripts for the show.

In this episode Gerry and Iain considered what constitutes scientific research.
