Sam leaps into an aide to wealthy businessman Michael Blake (Charles Rocket). Besides an irritating colleague called Calloway (Tom McTigue), Sam’s main concern is a persistant Salvation Army captain called Downey (Melinda McGraw) who objects to Blake’s plans to build a plaza on top of their Mission.
Sam and Al decide to visit a Dickensian nightmare on Blake who learns from chestnut salesman Max Wushinski (Robert Lesser) that a childhood friend died, in part due to one of Blake’s business decisions. Sam continues to try and tug on the businessman’s heartstrings and save the Mission, but Blake is not stupid and soon realises what is happening.
A Little Miracle was directed by Michael W. Watkins, the first of his six stints in the big chair for the series. The writers were Sandy Fries and Robert Wolterstorff. This was the only story credit for Fries on the show and the last of three for Wolterstorff.
In this episode Gerry and Iain considered what Christmas means to us.
