The Right Hand of God – Episode 4

The Right Hand of God was the fourth episode of Quantum Leap’s first season to air, with Sam finding himself pulled in two different directions over his participation in a rigged fight. In this episode Gerry and Iain discuss their favourite nun-themed movies.

Leaping into boxer Clarence ‘Kid’ Cody (Michael Strasser), Sam discovers he is part of a long-running scam. His opponents have been throwing fights so that he can lose a championship match in a specific round, on the instructions of Jake Edwards (Guy Stockwell).

However, Sam’s contract is owned by a convent of nuns who inherited it and who do not know his fights are staged. They are hoping he will win the championship to fund a new chapel. Sam trains with Sister Angela (Michelle Joyner) and Gomez (Alex Colon) to get himself in shape for the contest, but may still need help from his girlfriend Dixie (Teri Copley) if he is to emerge victorious.

The Right Hand of God was directed by Gilbert M. Shilton, the first of his four episodes for the show. The teleplay was written by John Hill, the first of his two episodes.

In this episode Gerry and Iain considered whether everybody needs a montage.
